Journal #6 In The Perspective of Atticus chap 16-19
I believe Bob Ewell beat his daughter. I believe Mayella is covering for him. I believe Tom Robinson is innocent. My DEFENDENT is innocent. The way Mayella hesitated when I asked her about being beaten by her father tells me she is afraid to tell the truth. Also the way she changes her story about what Tom Robinson did every time I get under her skin tells me she made the story on the spot. The fact that Bob Ewell is left handed and Mayella's beating is mostly acumulated on her right side just shows that Bob Ewell must have beat her. Also, Tom's left have is crippled. He couldn't have held her down. They must have BEGRUDGED Tom, maybe for messing up a favor they asked him. The judge should rule this case ridiculous due to the fact that the Ewell family is PREJUDICE against blacks. Thankfully the judge doesn't show any signs of hating black people. He seem's tolerant and nice. If the judge hated blacks this case would have been over before it started. But he seems to be laughing at the fact that Mayella is messing up her story. Some people may not get why I ask IRRELEVENT questions that have nothing to do to the story, but they're are to show the jury these witness's backgrounds. I asked Tom random questions to show that he would answer anything. And that he would tell the truth when I asked for it. I think this case is going good and I'm almost confident I will show the judge that Tom Robinson isn't Guilty.
